Why was the Law Given?

When reading Duet to the kids at bedtime, it dawned on me how the first curse mentioned is anyone who makes an idol and the second is anyone who dishonor their parents. (Duet 27). Wow.

Was also thinking about how parents could tell the village to stone their son who is a drunkard and wayward and cannot be managed. ( Duet 21:18-21) and I would think how that is harsh, killing your own kid and sentencing your own child to death by the law given by God! Does the bible really say that parents should stone their rebellious children?

These were always the kind of passages in the bible that I used to avoid and just not want to digest because it scared me and made me not know what to think of.

But somehow today, the revelation of the heart of God came to me that… the law was set so that they would be obedient to their parents. It is to instill a fear for disobedience and to draw out a boundary that this is the severity, how serious it is in the eyes of God. This is the level of holiness of what is right in God’s eyes. Just like there is a law in sg that if you murder u will get hanged. The law was given not because it is cruel and wants to kill and put people to death. It is to show you the severity of murder and hopefully deter you from ever murdering anyone because you are afraid of the law.

The law was given for the evil… to prevent them hopefully from carrying out evil and to protect the innocent. The law is given for justice. “We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,” 1 Timothy 1:9

This morning this came to me… a full revelation that the Law really shows us how sinful sin is to God. But as we see the gravity of our sin, we will be even more aware and amazed at the depths of God’s Grace towards us through giving us forgiveness through Jesus’s death. WOW.

‘The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.’ – Romans 5:20-21

LAW WAS GIVEN SO THAT SIN MIGHT BECOME UTTERLY SINFUL.

Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful. ‘ – Romans 7:13

LAW WAS GIVEN SO THAT WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS SINFUL IN THE EYES OF GOD

What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” Romans 7:7

JESUS CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW, NOT TO ABOLISH. STILL REMAINS EXCEPT THAT NOW WE FULFILL IT THROUGH DEATH IN CHRIST, THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.

‘ “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. ‘ Matthew 5:17-20

LAW REMAINS, EVEN WHEN HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS AWAY, WHO GOD IS, His level of Holiness Remains. Sin is still Sin in the eyes of God, it does not change. It is only that we can come under the forgiveness through the blood of Jesus and die with him that we can be free from the Law through living life by the spirit, as the laws will be written on our hearts.

‘It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it. “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. ‘ Luke 16:16-18

(GOD, HOLY SPIRIT and JESUS) MAKE HOME WITH THOSE WHO OBEY JESUS’s TEACHING.
John 14:23 (NIV)
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Have been thinking about how the Moabites were considered Cut off and not to intermarry and cursed to the 10th Generation, but how Ruth was a Moabite woman! How she was redeemed by Boaz, and she was the mother of OBED, the father of DAVID… whose family line led to JESUS……

How although there were many people God cursed, but he redeemed – calling those who were not his people, His People. What Mercy !

‘As he says in Hosea: “I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people; and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,” What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? and, “In the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’ ” ‘ Romans 9:23-26
